It’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything from L.A based producer duo, ROYALTY. The duo, which includes Sam Perlow and Thomas Michel, have been recognized for their take on a number of renowned hits, including Kaskade and Ilsey’s “Disarm You” and Adventure Club’s “Wonder”, and their incorporation of unique Future Bass type sounds.
Their last mix was of A-Trak’s “We All Fall Down” featuring Jamie Lidell and was put out four months ago. However, upon its release, ROYALTY seemed to be missing in action and left many fans wondering when and if they were going to put out new material. Although there lies a fairly significant amount of time between then and now, it was surely worth the wait.
This time around, ROYALTY takes on Billie Eilish’s “Ocean Eyes”. The original indie track has been praised for Billie’s dreamy vocals that is paired along with a romantic and calming melody. Together, they create a song that honestly makes you feel like you’re floating. ROYALTY’s take on this beautiful track has a fairly mellow beginning, giving you some time to reminisce about the original, but it eventually starts to pick up and is followed up with an unreal futuristic drop. The producer duo does an amazing job in simultaneously maintaining the relaxing vibe of the original, along with Billie’s soothing vocals, while also successfully incorporating that futuristic sound that we have all come to know and love.
Essentially, this track serves to remind us just how great this duo is and that they are very much present and here to stay. I’m sure I speak for a lot of people when I say that it is definitely good to have them back.
